Basic Burger with Goat Cheese and Bacon at Chez Maman

February 11th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under American, Food, French / 5 Comments

I wanted to take Holly to one of my favorite lunch spots in the city since she’s only in town for a couple days, so I took her to Chez Maman. I picked that place because I figured it would be pretty empty during a weekday, but no, it was still packed. Don’t these people [...]

Must Eat French Macarons and Quiche Lorraine at Patisserie Philippe

February 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Dessert, Food, French, Must Eat / Leave A Comment

This was my first time having savory items at Patisserie Philippe, but I wasn’t surprised at all at how good they were since they know how to do pastries right. I really liked their quiche lorraine (quiche with bacon and onions). It was light and not too salty. Just right. Their other savory pastry that [...]

Crepes at Cafe Breton in Tagaytay

January 23rd, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, French, Philippines, Travels / Leave A Comment

We grabbed some crepes at Cafe Breton. You just can’t go wrong with nutella crepes; however, they had something that I’m not used to seeing in American menus: mango crepes. The crepe is filled with sliced mangos and heated so it’s nice and hot, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and covered with [...]

Hot Apple Pie Drink at Posh

January 16th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Coffee & Drinks, Dessert, Food, French, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

We went to Posh II (the second location of Posh) for dessert. Their desserts didn’t have much of a wow factor, although their hot apple pie drink really did taste like a warm apple pie, but in drink form. Everything else (chocolate with ice cream, yogurt drink, crepe) was okay.

Must Eat Basic Burger with Egg at Gamine

September 28th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, French, Must Eat / Leave A Comment

Bobby wanted to eat at Chez Maman, but I knew we wouldn’t fit there so I took everyone to Gamine on Union St. instead, which is the same restaurant but with a different name. The menu was the same and the service was just as good, but the food was a bit off. My burger [...]

Soup Dumplings in Taipei 101, Cupcakes and Ice Cream in Eslite, Jay Chou’s Restaurant, Capoeira Lessons, and Shopping at Wufenpu

September 8th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Dessert, Food, French, Italian, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

I don’t know how but I lost all my pictures for the rest of this day. Sucks. I’ll just try to get pictures from the others later.
We went to Taipei 101 after lunch. The girls went shopping while the guys walked around a bit and ended up eating soup dumplings (小籠包) at the food court. [...]

Late Night Meal at Cafe Presse

July 31st, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, French, Travels / Leave A Comment

Linda, Jennifer, John and I had a late night meal at Cafe Presse before heading to Seattle. Linda got there earlier and had already eaten, and the rest of us got there and each ordered a croque madam. We shared an order of pommes frites too. Cafe Presse is one of my favorite places in [...]

Exploring and Eating Carmel-by-the-Sea Downtown

June 28th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Dessert, Food, French, Landmarks, Travels / Leave A Comment

We had the best pork sandwich ever at Carmel Belle, located inside the Doud Craft Studios. It was a slow-cooked Berkshire pork with red onion-currant chutney on a ciabatta bread. How good was it? My mom didn’t want to eat because she was still full from breakfast and dessert, but I insisted that she take [...]

Dinner at Midi for Edwin’s Birthday and Cupcakes from Sweet Things

June 9th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Dessert, Food, French / Leave A Comment

What a shame. We ordered every single item on Midi’s menu (two of each appetizer and one of each entree and dessert) and I took a picture of every single dish, but something went wrong with my memory card and aside from the desserts, this grilled hangar steak was the only food item left in [...]

Dinner at Chez Maman: Burger with Brie and Bacon

June 3rd, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, French / Leave A Comment

Chez Maman’s “Basic Burger” is one of my favorite burgers in the city. The meat comes out juicy and not greasy, and I really like the soft ciabatta-ish bread they use. Ever since I visited Portland, I fell in love with the combination of brie and bacon, so when I saw that you could add [...]
