My last night in Taiwan was spent wandering through Shilin Night Market (士林夜市) with Jennifer and Megan. I didn’t try anything new except for the black tea soybean milk drink. We basically had some of our favorites one last time, plus, Megan hasn’t had any of them yet.
1. 1000cc black tea soybean milk (紅茶豆漿) drink [...]

Must Eat Spicy Wonton at Yang Ji Da Hun Tun

One of my favorite spicy wontons (紅油炒手) of all time is from Yang Ji Da Hun Tun (楊記大餛飩), located in the alley beside California Fitness at Zhongxiao Dunhua (忠孝鈍化). I’ve never had spicy wontons that big, and served in a light broth mixed with eggs, among other things.

Must Eat Cold Noodles at Hao Peng You Liang Mian in Shilin Night Market

January 8th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Must Eat, Street Food, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

I don’t know what it is about Taiwan street food but they make simple dishes taste really good. The cold noodles at Hao Peng You Liang Mian (好朋友涼麵) or “Best Friend Cold Noodles” is one of the best I’ve had. Perhaps they’ve found the perfect balance between noodles, peanut sauce, cucumbers, and pork.

Street Food at the ChungHwa Night Market

January 7th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Street Food, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

The ChungHwa Night Market (中華夜市) was not as big as the Feng Jia Night Market (逢甲夜市). The food was still good, but it didn’t have as much variety. My favorite of the night was the bbq fried chicken steak (碳烤雞排) from 一中8兩碳烤雞排. The flatbread (烙餅) I had from Hit Cookie Home (打餅舖) was good, but [...]

Must Eat Street Food at the Feng Jia Night Market

January 6th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Must Eat, Street Food, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

There aren’t as many night markets in Taichung compared to Taipei, but their night market food is just as variant and good. Feng Jia Night Market (逢甲夜市) is one of the bigger ones. My favorite food of the night was the Taiwanese sausage wrapped in rice. By the way, if you do happen to go [...]

A visit to Taiwan isn’t complete without a visit to the Shilin Night Market (士林夜市) to eat. Here’s what we had tonight while we were there:

Oyster omelette/owa jian (蚵仔煎)
Luroufan (魯肉飯)
Coffin board (棺材板)
Fried chicken steak (雞排)
Everything was delicious.

Street Food at Ximending

I didn’t get to try much street food at Ximending, but I did get to try the roasted quail eggs (烤鳥蛋). I’m pretty sure they’re quail eggs. They taste like miniature chicken eggs. Delicious.

After having drinks at Cha Jie, we snacked around a bit at the street food vendors outside. Nothing too different from what we normally eat this time.

Prosciutto Cotto Sandwich from the Boccalone Salumeria Salumi Cycle

November 13th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under American, Food, Street Food / Leave A Comment

I didn’t know what to eat for lunch because I was extremely busy at work but needed at least a minute outside. Coincidentally, I hopped on Twitter and it turned out that Boccalone Salumeria’s Salumi Cycle was out and about just a block away from me. Carol and I went to check it out and [...]
