A Visit to the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and Taipei 101

September 13th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Landmarks, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

It’s not as awing as the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, but we checked out the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (國立國父紀念館) anyway since it’s conveniently located outside of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial MRT station. We didn’t go in but we got some shots outside. Plus, you get a really nice view of Taipei 101 from [...]

A Visit to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

September 13th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Landmarks, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

The one touristy place that everyone should visit while in Taiwan is the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (國立中正紀念堂), located at the east end of Liberty Square (自由廣場). Chiang Kai-shek was the a former president of the Republic of China. A giant monument of him is sitting inside a huge building atop a flight of stairs. [...]

September 10th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Landmarks, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

Sharon and I went to check out the Pixar 20 Years of Animation exhibit at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. The exhibit was pretty cool and I learned a lot about the history of Pixar. The musuem, however, was a mess. The Pixar exhibit was crowded so it was hard to get close to a [...]

September 6th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Landmarks, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

Just because we’re on vacation it doesn’t mean we have to miss church. For all those in Taiwan and looking for an English-speaking church service, check out the Grace Baptist Church, located near the Gongguan station. It’s a very traditional church and it makes you feel like you’re in America. Service starts at 10 a.m., [...]

Old Fisherman’s Wharf and the Old Fisherman’s Grotto

June 28th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under American, Food, Landmarks, Travels / Leave A Comment

One of my favorite things about Monterey is it’s Old Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s tiny and loaded with either restaurants or souvenier shops. I like how every single restaurant has someone standing outside giving out samples of their clam chowder. If I wasn’t already full from dinner, I’d say all these samples woulda gotten me full [...]

A Walk Around Lovers Point Park

June 28th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Landmarks, Travels / Leave A Comment

After dinner, we had to walk off the food so we went to Lovers Point Park, just a few blocks away from the restaurant. Well, we stayed mainly around the beach side, and I climbed up the rocks to grab a view of everything from atop. I spotted sea otters too, but they were too [...]

The White Sands of Carmel Beach

June 28th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Landmarks, Travels / Leave A Comment

Such a nice beach. The sand is so soft that when I first stepped onto it, I sank. Dogs are able to roam around unleashed. Too bad it was cold, otherwise I would have dipped my feet into the water. Mom got a little too close and her pants got wet. Ha!

Exploring and Eating Carmel-by-the-Sea Downtown

June 28th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Dessert, Food, French, Landmarks, Travels / Leave A Comment

We had the best pork sandwich ever at Carmel Belle, located inside the Doud Craft Studios. It was a slow-cooked Berkshire pork with red onion-currant chutney on a ciabatta bread. How good was it? My mom didn’t want to eat because she was still full from breakfast and dessert, but I insisted that she take [...]

Carmel Mission Basilica

June 28th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Landmarks, Travels / Leave A Comment

This was the second non-food stop of our visit to Carmel. The Carmel Mission Basilica is definitely worth a visit if you’re: 1) into history, 2) into religion, or 3) have a checklist and need to get it out of the way. I fall under 2 and 3. $5 entrance, or $4 if you’re a [...]

Hiking in Carmel: Point Lobos State Reserve

June 27th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Landmarks, Travels / Leave A Comment

Our first non-food stop during our trip to Monterey Bay was at the Point Lobos State Reserve. The weather was muggy but that didn’t stop us from going. We hiked around for a bit but had to rush since I had an itinerary long enough to last  a whole weekend yet crammed into a day.
