February 4, 2014 – February 6, 2014 – For the third leg of my winter Asia trip 2014, I spent just two nights in Hong Kong. I’ve been to HK several times already and I really just wanted to see some friends and hit some of the usual must-visit eats: Tai Cheong Bakery 泰昌餅家 in Central for their famous egg tarts, Lan Fong Yuen 蘭芳園 near Tai Cheong Bakery for some “pantyhose” milk tea, and Tim Ho Wan 添好運 in Sham Shui Po this time (having earned one Michelin star in the 2011 guide) for dim sum, of course.
I also really enjoyed dim sum at DimDimSum Dim Sum 點點心點心專門店, Jordan branch. They opened really late was just around the corner from where I was staying. Plus, they have really cute pig buns.
And actually, my favorite egg tart isn’t at Tai Cheong Bakery but at Macau Restaurant 澳門茶餐廳 in TST instead. They serve the Portuguese egg tarts, but even without the caramelized top the rest of the egg tart is still excellent. I always come here when I visit Hong Kong.
I also figured I might as well check out Ippudo in HK since I’ve already had it in the states, Taiwan and Japan.
One of my favorite new finds this time (and I know it’s not new) was the Charlie Brown Cafe in TST. I am a sucker for themed restaurants, and this whole cafe was well-themed, all tables with a character head, all drinks and cakes also with character decorations, and I thought the kids section with a big screen playing Charlie Brown cartoons was cute.
Anyway, here are a few more random pictures I took during my short stay in Hong Kong. Coincidentally, looking back, I realized took the exact same shot of a scene in Mongkok twice – once in daylight and once at night.
And of course, traveling wouldn’t have been as fun without the friends I met along the way. 🙂
Next stop, Thailand!
