I got 9th row floor seats to Wild 94.9‘s Wild Jam 2013. I arrived late and missed a few performances, but better late than never. I also caught Drop City Yacht Club roaming the floor while going back to my seat from intermission and snapped a picture with him. Fun times!

Rum and Raisin Kit Kat

Something you need to know about Kit Kat flavors – they taste exactly like what they sound like. So here’s an interesting flavor concocted up by Japan – rum and raisin. It has that alcoholic taste but with the sweetness of white chocolate. This is Tokyo’s limited edition flavor and I got it back in January while I was in Japan; however, I bought it while I was in Yokohama, not Tokyo. I think this is one of my favorite flavors now.

Mascarpone French Toast with Scrambled Eggs and Millionaire’s Bacon

The latest trend in San Francisco seems to be millionaire’s bacon. It’s a thick cut of meaty bacon sweetened with brown sugar, among other things. It’s delicious, but it can get to be too sweet. However, stick it in a BLT sandwich just like what Kitchen Story did it makes for a perfect lunch. Honestly, everything I tried at Kitchen Story was worth ordering. It’s Asian fusion food done right. I’ll be back for more.

Jasmine Milk Tea with Honey Boba

There’s a new boba shop in town and though the interior nor exterior look very pleasant, the drinks are. I’ve been there three times already within the two weeks they’ve been opened. What I like about Infini Tea (or is it InfiniTea?) is that they serve fresh, hot boba coated in honey. You can even see them cooking the pot of pearls in the back. Toss the hot balls in a cold cup of the drink of your choice and you get a party in your mouth. Their menu has a wide selection of drinks but it’s not overwhelming. They even have decaf milk tea that comes in either taro or malt flavor.

Basil Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Sunny days are back and so is my ice cream craving. I haven’t been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous enough lately. All of their flavors have completely changed since the last time I’ve been there. This time, my new favorite is their basil chocolate chip ice cream. Basil is a flavor I love, though it’s not something I’d expect in something sweet, and chocolate chip is a simple, classic flavor that everyone general enjoys. Put them together and in their house-made waffle cone and you have a sweet, refreshing treat.

Corned Beef Hash

With all these new age fusion restaurants opening up, it’s nice to be able to still go to a quiet, low-key neighborhood and have a solid traditional breakfast/brunch meal. Liberty Cafe has been around forever and I wonder why I’ve never been. I finally went and tried their eggs benedict and their corned beef hash. Both dishes were excellent, but what I really loved was the side of fresh-made jam that came with my hash. I usually don’t like jam because it is too sweet, especially store-bought ones, but theirs was perfect.

Tonkotsu Ramen

The newest ramen shop to hit San Francisco is Waraku, taking the old spot of Bushi-tei in Japantown. It’s the sister restaurant of Men Oh Tokushima, but I like this place a lot better. The restaurant is nicer, service is better, and the ramen itself is more worth it – no crazy wait, better portions and better tasting. The tonkotsu broth is not too salty (though maybe a little bit saltier would have been okay too), and they give a couple thick, tender slices of chashu. (I remember Men Oh’s ramen serving up just a couple small, very thin slices of baraniku instead of chashu, which is the Tokushima style. I was left still hungry) Their fried stuff – I had the karaage and the squid karaage – were good but very oily. I wouldn’t say this is my favorite ramen spot in the city, but I wouldn’t mind coming here again.

Taiwanese Bento 台式便當

There’s a new Taiwanese bento (便當）spot inside the Marina Food supermarket in San Mateo called Formosa Express. It’s a really good deal and the food is pretty good. I’d say it’s worth way more than what you pay for. They have a buy one get one free promotion right now (or maybe this is the actual price) so you get two for $6.99. Each bento comes with your choice of main entree over rice and with pickled vegetables, daikon, stewed egg and cabbage. $3.50 for a meal. Not bad, eh? Hours are limited: 10am-2:30pm, then 4:30pm-7pm, daily.
