I had my doubts about Hapa SF at first, but after I took that first bite of the lumpia ginger-scallion chicken, I was a believer. It was a little cramp and stuffy inside La Victoria Mexican Bakery and Cafe, but we Asians are used to cramp seating anyway.
The minced meat inside was mushier than typical lumpia, but in a good way. The Dungeness crab pancit looked like it was going to be bland to me, but it actually turned nice and allowed you to taste more of the crab, and there was plenty of it. The food isn’t exactly Filipino. Maybe one made it more Filipino was the names of the dishes, which were in Tagalog. If I had to compare it to typical Filipino food, I’d say it’s less greasy and more flavor.
