Mazatlan, Mexico in September 2013

I’m long overdue for my recently Mazatlan trip. It was awesome! It wasn’t as touristy as other Mexican beach resorts, and the beaches weren’t as nice, but I did enjoy the food the most, particularly their raw seafood and ceviche. My favorite meal was at Alagua. I haven’t had octopus like that anywhere before, and their raw scallops were amazing. Shrimp is served just about in every restaurant and always fresh. Tacos were cheap. El Bigotes had awesome carnitas. Aguas frescas were made to order and only about US$1.50 for a large cup in Downtown.

They use Volkswagon golft carts as taxis and fares are relatively cheap, especially the buses, which are actually easy to learn to use since Mazatlan isn’t very big. There’s also something about small towns having friendlier people. The city felt very safe, even in the middle of the night.

I’m definitely gonna have to go back.
