2015-10-23 – 2015-10-28 – The haze ruined all possible scenic views during my visit this time; fortunately, I’ve seen it all before. Knowing full well that a lot of site seeing would not happen, I was able to focus on my two favorite hobbies: eating and shopping. Here are the highlights of my trip this time:
Ya Kun Kaya Toast is still my favorite for kaya toast and “teh”. JONASAPPROVED!
Paradise Dynasty will continue to be a must visit for their 8 flavored xiao long bao (soup dumplings): original, ginseng, foie gras, black truffle, cheesy, crab roe, garlic and Szechuan (spicy), eaten exactly in that order. JONASAPPROVED!
Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice 天天海南鸡饭 continues to be the best Hainan chicken and rice that I’ve had, and at a steal of a price – about US$3. JONASAPPROVED!
Rasapura Food Court in Marina Bay Sands is possibly the nicest Singaporean food courts I’ve been to, and parts of it is open 24/7. JONASAPPROVED! JONASAPPROVED!
The Crystal Jade empire is always a good choice if you can’t think of what to eat. I was able to visit Crystal Jade Kitchen at Takashimiya for Cantonese/Hong Kong cuisine and Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao at Ngee Ann City for exactly what its name is – noodles and xiao long bao. Here I was able to try their 4 flavored xiao long bao: black truffle, spicy chicken, original and vegetable. JONASAPPROVED!
Lady M in Singapore offers the same crepe cakes from NY (and LA) but with a lesser crazy wait. JONASAPPROVED!
Itacho Sushi at Changi Airport Terminal 3 is quality sushi at a steal of a price. JONASAPPROVED!
But of course, I did have some disappointing experiences too. I was tempted to eat at Chatterbox since I was hanging around Orchard almost every day and it was raved about in Crazy Rich Asians. Well, the day finally came, and I was hugely disappointed on their Hainan chicken rice. The chicken was not as tender and flavorful as Tian Tian’s; however, their rice was solid. Next time I want to spend US$20 on rice, I know where to come. (Their Hokkien mee, however, was delicious, but at almost US$20, I probably won’t be going back for it.)
