Taro and Red Bean Soup at Long Dou Bing Guo Zhuan Ye Jia (龍都冰菓專業家)

January 19th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Dessert, Food, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

Albert and Winnie suggested we try the hot desserts at Long Dou Bing Guo Zhuan Ye Jia (龍都冰菓專業家). They are known for their porridge (粥) but none of us got it? They went for their peanut soups. Jennifer and I tried their taro and red bean soup. It hit the spot. The taro was good, [...]

Oyster Omelette at Miao Kou Owa Jian

January 19th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Chinese, Food, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

After having just consumed all that alcohol mixed into the snake blood drinks set, I needed food in my system. Miao Kou Owa Jian (廟口蚵仔煎) seemed like a legit place for one of my favorite Taiwanese food: oyster omelette, or better known to the locals as owa jian (蚵仔煎). I’ve had better at Shilin Night [...]

Snake Blood at Jin Dai Shan Chan Yao Shan Fang

January 18th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Chinese, Food, Taiwan, Travels / 3 Comments

The most daring thing I did this time in Taiwan was probably drinking snake blood at Jin Dai Shan Chan Yao Shan Fang (金代山產藥膳坊) at the Huaxi Street Tourist Nightmarket (華西街觀光夜市), or better known as Snake Alley. Of all the places in Snake Alley, Jin Dai Shan Chan Yao Shan Fang was the most touristy [...]

Hot Apple Pie Drink at Posh

January 16th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Coffee & Drinks, Dessert, Food, French, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

We went to Posh II (the second location of Posh) for dessert. Their desserts didn’t have much of a wow factor, although their hot apple pie drink really did taste like a warm apple pie, but in drink form. Everything else (chocolate with ice cream, yogurt drink, crepe) was okay. 台北市大安區敦化南路一段190巷42號‎ – 02-2773-0568‎

Pork Cutlet at Zhu Wu (Butaya)

January 16th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Japanese, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

When it comes to deep fried pork cutlet (tonkatsu), Zhu Wu (豚屋日式炸豬排), or “Bataya” in Japanese, does a very good job. The pork comes out nicely battered, crispy and flaky, while the meat remains juicy. The curry is good, or if you want something sweeter, their green onion sauce mix was delicious. Now, all they [...]

Burgers at Monkey Hurry

January 15th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under American, Food, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

At long last, I was able to eat a burger of California stature in Taiwan at Monkey Hurry. The burgers here are big and juicy. The fries here taste fresh too. I highly recommend this place for people craving meat in a country filled with vegetables and starches. It’ll definitely fill your burger/meat craving. 公司位於:台北市中山區錦州街314號三角窗 [...]

Pizza at Primo Trattoria

January 15th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Italian, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

I’m a thin crust pizza fan so I had to try out Primo Trattoria. Overall, I’d say it’s compareable to that of Fifteen Napoletano Pizza, except it’s a lot more expensive. Toppings are different, though. For pizza, I’d recommend 15, but if you want other dishes like pasta as well, Primo Trattoria is a good [...]

Haircut at Art of Hair – Again

January 15th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

I went for another haircut at Art of Hair again. I wanted something shorter this time because long hair is a lot to maintain. Angie was accomodating enough to squeeze me into his schedule and redo my hair.

Must Eat Dinner at M Cafe

January 11th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Italian, Must Eat, Taiwan, Travels / 1 Comment

Of all the “westernized” places in Taipei, my most favorite place for dinner by far has got to be M Cafe (門卡迪) at Ximending. At about NT$500 (or US$17), you can get a five course meal consisting of your choice of: soup, salad/appetizer, entree, drink, and dessert. The only thing disappointing was probably the soup, [...]
