Bo Bay Mon at Pagolac

March 11th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Vietnamese / Leave A Comment

We celebrated Jack’s birthday with some seven course beef (bo bay mon) at Pagolac. Their seven course of beef is actually in 7×7’s 100 Things to Try Before You Die. I’ve only had seven course beef one other time before at San Jose’s Saigon Kitchen and they offered a better value for similar food, i.e., [...]

Must Eat Fresh Hot Donuts at Bob’s Donut & Pastry Shop

February 15th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Food, Must Eat / 1 Comment

I don’t care much for donuts unless they’re one of three things: gourmet, with bacon, or fresh-hot, straight from the fryer. It’s hard for me to have freshly fried donuts since I’m usually asleep when bakers are frying them in the morning. That’s where Bob’s Donut & Pastry Shop comes into play. When 10pm hits, [...]

Frozen Yogurt at Jubili Frozen Yogurt and Cereal

February 15th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Dessert, Food / Leave A Comment

It’s been a while since I last visited Jubili Frozen Yogurt and Cereal. I still consider Jubili to be the original frozen yogurt joint that started the trend in San Francisco. Quality, cleanliness, and service haven’t changed since they opened a few years ago – still top-notch. They also have baked goods now, namely cupcakes, [...]

Raw Food at Bar Crudo – Happy Hour Before 6:30

December 29th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under American, Food / Leave A Comment

Linda took me to Bar Crudo for my birthday. Another excellent meal. We got there early and it happened to be happy hour. $1 oysters and $5 cup of seafood chowder. We agreed that their Seafood Chowder is possibly the best we’ve ever had. It had bits of fish, mussels, shrimp, squid, potatoes, and applewood [...]

Izakaya (Japanese Tapas) at Nombe in the Mission

December 12th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Japanese / Leave A Comment

This city doesn’t have enough izakaya style restaurants. Nombe seems to fit right in to the Mission. Short and to the point: Portions are often times a bit small, but overall, everything is good. The brussel sprouts, pork belly, and butternut squash tempura rolls are some of my favorites. As for dessert, their melt-in-your-mouth beignets [...]

Kara’s Cupcakes for Linda’s Birthday

December 9th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Dessert, Food / Leave A Comment

We celebrated Linda’s birthday with cupcakes from Kara’s Cupcakes. Only the best for Linda! Kara’s had a peppermint cupcake, which is seasonal. The frosting had bits of peppermint in it. Delicious. Too bad Linda ate the entire cupcake up, leaving only a bit of the frosting behind. At least I got that much.

Late Night Sushi at Drunken Sushi

November 29th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Japanese, Korean / Leave A Comment

Another late night meal spent at Drunken Sushi with my favorite dish Korean dish, the hoedeopbap, or what their menu refers to as the Wow. We also got their Pebble dish, one of my favorite appetizers of theirs, which is a battered, deep-fried spicy-tuna dish, and we got their scream roll and an order of [...]

Desserts at Mango Medley

November 7th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Chinese, Coffee & Drinks, Dessert, Food / Leave A Comment

After our meal at the Old Mandarin Islamic Restaurant, we grabbed dessert nearby at Mango Medley. It has changed a lot since I was last there (at least a year ago) and for the better. For the most part, the food is the same, but now, service is a lot faster. I remember having to [...]

Hot Pot at Old Mandarin Islamic Restaurant

November 7th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Chinese, Food / Leave A Comment

A group of us ate at Old Mandarin  Islamic Restaurant for David’s birthday. It’s definitely a great place for hot pot and good-ole Beijing food. Since this Chinese restaurant observes Islam, they don’t serve pork, but they do serve a lot of lamb. Aside from their hot pot, their Peking noodles and their beef pancake [...]

Brown Sugar with Ginger Caramel Swirl at Bi-Rite Creamery

October 10th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Dessert, Food / Leave A Comment

I had to go to Bi-Rite Creamery since I was out of town last weekend and didn’t have any ice cream in SF at all. I thought about it and I don’t think I’ve ever had a cup of their brown sugar with ginger caramel swirl ice cream, so that’s what I had. It was [...]
