Must Eat Hickoryburger at The Apple Pan

October 5th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under American, Food, Los Angeles County, Must Eat, Travels / Leave A Comment

For our last meal in LA, we went to The Apple Pan. They have one of the best (if not the best) traditional burgers that I’ve ever had. It was a patty with lettuce, onions and ketchup with melted natural Tillamook Cheddar cheese – simple! It reminded me o an In-N-Out burger, but smokier since [...]

Late Night Japanese Tapas at Izakaya Haru Ulala

October 5th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Japanese, Los Angeles County, Travels / Leave A Comment

It seems like I’ve been coming to Izakaya Haru Ulala a lot lately. They close at 2 a.m. in the weekends so it’s always a good spot to check out when hungry. Considering how much we’ve been eating all day, we ordered a lot of food here. My favorites were the radish in the braised [...]

Food Break Susina Bakery & Cafe

October 5th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Coffee & Drinks, Food, Los Angeles County, Travels / Leave A Comment

We went into Susina Bakery & Cafe to take a break from eating and just sip on some tea and digest. I had their apricot tea, which was good, and caffeine-free. I was tempted to get a slice of a cake or tart, but I stopped myself since we were going to move on to [...]

Ice Cream and Pastries at Milk

October 5th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Dessert, Food, Los Angeles County, Travels / Leave A Comment

I love the way Milk looks, inside and out. In terms of food, it’s just okay. Everything looks pretty, but I’ve had better, especially after having just visited Patisserie Chantilly in the morning for cakes and Scoops in the afternoon for ice cream. I did, however, like their chocolate macaroon and their banana ice cream. [...]

Japanese-French Fusion Tapas at Orris

October 5th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Fusion, Los Angeles County, Tapas Bar, Travels / Leave A Comment

Our next meal in LA was at Orris on Sawtelle where we had some Japanese-French fusion tapas. This was my second time here, and I’m still digging their tempura anchovies and salmon croquettes, two of my favorite items there. I also really liked their burrata bruschetta, which I got to try for the first time [...]

Strawberry Verbena and Guiness Caramel Ice Cream at Scoops

October 5th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Dessert, Food, Los Angeles County, Travels / Leave A Comment

I’m glad we got to visit my favorite ice cream shop in LA: Scoops. (I even have their addressed memorized!) This time I went with a scoop of strawberry verbena ice cream and a scoop of Guinness caramel ice cream. I have to say though that even though I didn’t get it this time, brown [...]

Must Eat Rattlesnake Sausage and other Exotic Meats at Wurstkuche

October 5th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Los Angeles County, Must Eat, Travels / 1 Comment

Wurstkuche looks like a warehouse from the outside but it’s actually the home of the wildest sausages out there. I was able to try some crazy sausages such as the Rattlesnake & Rabbit with Jalapeño Peppers sausage, the Rabbit, Veal & Pork Seasoned with White Wine sausage, and the Duck & Bacon with Jalapeño Peppers [...]

Mochi and Manju at Fugetsu-Do

October 5th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Dessert, Food, Japanese, Los Angeles County, Travels / Leave A Comment

We dropped by Fugetsu-Do in Little Tokyo real quick since it was closeby. The strawberry manju wasn’t as good as the last time I had it, but the strawberry mochi was still really good. Overall, this is still my favorite place for mochi in LA.

Bottega Louie Restaurant and Gourmet Market

October 5th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Food, Los Angeles County, Travels / Leave A Comment

We went to Bottega Louie after lunch. We mainly went for their bakery side. It was nice and huge inside, but it all felt so superficial, including the food. The pastries were pretty but were just dry and loaded with sugar. Maybe their hot food is better?

Albap and Hoedeopbap at A-Won Japanese Restaurant

October 4th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Korean, Los Angeles County, Travels / Leave A Comment

We had lunch at A-Won Japanese Restaurant in Koreatown. This is Linda and my favorite place to eat hoedeopbap (회덮밥) because it’s big and really cheap (~$14) unlike in SF. What I also had here that was different this time and was really good was their albap (알밥), a fish egg rice dish, as pictured [...]
