Meyer Lemon Ice Cream at Bi-Rite Creamery

March 10th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Dessert, Food / Leave A Comment

I haven’t been going to Bi-Rite Creamery weekly like I used to. It all started with me going out of the country for a few weeks, then they closed for renovations and expansion. After finally reopening (and now with seats inside) they also came out with a new ice cream flavor: Meyer lemon. I like [...]

Must Eat Mexican Food at Tropisueno

March 9th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Mexican, Must Eat / Leave A Comment

I love Tropisueno. It’s definitely one of the best non-taqueria Mexican restaurants that I’ve been to. Right after I took that first bite of their complimentary tortilla chips and salsa, I knew the food would be good. Their ceviche tasted fresh, empanadas weren’t oily, seared sea scallops were cooked just right, chile relleno nicely prepared, [...]

Brunch at Brenda’s French Soul Food

March 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Cajun/Creole, Food / Leave A Comment

I didn’t think I would ever get a chance to eat at Brenda’s French Soul Food again since I hate waiting in hour+ long lines, but thankfully, Thanh went earlier and helped me put my name down too. Total wait for me? About 20 min. And yes, the 20 min wait was so worth it!
Their [...]

Southwestern Chicken Hash at Delancey Street Restaurant

February 26th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under American, Food / Leave A Comment

I’m actually quite impressed with Delancey Street Restaurant. The food isn’t excellent, but their Sunday brunch is a step up from your regular chain diner. The portions are generous, and the prices are low. I tried their Belgian waffles – the flavor was there, but it was too soft. I like my Belgian waffles crispy. [...]

French Macarons at Sandbox Bakery

February 25th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Food / Leave A Comment

I can’t believe it but for once, I was actually a bit disappointed with Sandbox Bakery. (They were on a roll, too!) Mae and I saw that they had French/Parisian macarons, so we had to get them since we’re big fans. The macarons came … soggy? Maybe they just weren’t made fresh that day. I [...]

Tuttimelon Grand Reopening at North Beach/Chinatown

February 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Coffee & Drinks, Dessert, Food / Leave A Comment

The Tuttimelon in Chinatown/North Beach reopened this weekend, now as a self-serve frozen yogurt shop and as a hybrid store along with Tea Way, i.e., they now offer pearl milk tea drinks and fried snacks. They also still serve gelato (since they also used to be Yoogo Gelato). They were offering free frozen yogurt today [...]

Must Eat French Macarons and Quiche Lorraine at Patisserie Philippe

February 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Dessert, Food, French, Must Eat / Leave A Comment

This was my first time having savory items at Patisserie Philippe, but I wasn’t surprised at all at how good they were since they know how to do pastries right. I really liked their quiche lorraine (quiche with bacon and onions). It was light and not too salty. Just right. Their other savory pastry that [...]

Must Eat Blueberry Bread Pudding at Sandbox Bakery

February 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Food, Must Eat / Leave A Comment

I haven’t been to Sandbox Bakery ever since I left for vacation. Nothing has changed – everything is still good. This time, I tried their blueberry bread pudding. It’s one of the best bread puddings I’ve had. It’s lighter than when I get it at other American bakeries, yet it’s still very moist, and most [...]

Brunch at Bushi-Tei Bistro

December 21st, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Japanese / Leave A Comment

We had brunch at Bushi-Tei Bistro. This place never impressed me much – all show and no go – but they do offer a great lunch special: your choice of ramen and a choice of another item. I went with their chicken karaage ramen with a chirashi bowl. It was not bad, and the side [...]

Jasmine Green Milk Tea Frappe at Mango Medley

December 19th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Chinese, Dessert, Food / Leave A Comment

I think I’ve just discovered a new favorite drink of mine: the jasmine green milk tea frappe at Mango Medley. It’s like drinking a jasmine green milk tea but with blended ice that’s not too thick or crunchy that you’d have to actually bite it after drinking. Very refreshing!
