Lavender Milk Tea at Half and Half

December 28th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Coffee & Drinks, Food / Leave A Comment

A lot of people tend to hate the taste of lavender because it tastes like eating soup or potpourri, but the lavender milk tea at Half and Half Tea House is actually quite subtle – enough that lavender haters might like it. Then again, if you hate lavender, I guess you wouldn’t even bother ordering [...]

We were trying to eat at New Capital Seafood inside of the Focus Plaza in San Gabriel Square on Christmas Day but it was way too crowded, so we tried again the day after Christmas at a much earlier time – 11am. We were seated promptly and ordered like there was no tomorrow, because at [...]

We had lunch at Shanghai Restaurant in Focus Plaza in San Gabriel for Christmas because we didn’t want to wait over an hour for dim sum. It was not bad – dishes were hit or miss. Their house special spicy beef was our favorite – the beef really tender and blanked in a bed of [...]

Coffin Board at Pa Pa Walk

September 15th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Chinese, Food, Los Angeles County, Travels / Leave A Comment

For my last meal in San Gabriel, I wanted to relive my Taiwan moments one last time. I ate at Pa Pa Walk (趴趴走), the only restaurant I know of that serves coffin board (棺材板). I also had owa jian (蚵仔煎) and soup dumplings (小籠包). This stuff doesn’t compare to what I had in Taiwan, [...]

Late Night Meal at Dragon Mark

May 30th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Chinese, Food, Los Angeles County, Travels / 2 Comments

Dragon Mark aka Yi Tiao Long is one of my favorite late night restaurants in San Gabriel. Where else can you find (decent) soup dumplings at 2 a.m. in the morning? Located at Prospect Plaza, they close at 3 a.m. and offer a huge Shanghainese menu.
Jessica – you missed out. Never sleep early again.
