Brunch at Brenda’s French Soul Food

March 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Cajun/Creole, Food / Leave A Comment

I didn’t think I would ever get a chance to eat at Brenda’s French Soul Food again since I hate waiting in hour+ long lines, but thankfully, Thanh went earlier and helped me put my name down too. Total wait for me? About 20 min. And yes, the 20 min wait was so worth it!
Their [...]

Jasmine Green Milk Tea Frappe at Mango Medley

December 19th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Chinese, Dessert, Food / Leave A Comment

I think I’ve just discovered a new favorite drink of mine: the jasmine green milk tea frappe at Mango Medley. It’s like drinking a jasmine green milk tea but with blended ice that’s not too thick or crunchy that you’d have to actually bite it after drinking. Very refreshing!

Filipino Food at Tribu Grill in San Bruno

December 19th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Filipino, Food / Leave A Comment

I just had a great dinner at Tribu Grill for my birthday – it’s still kinda early but I’ll take it!) – thanks to Jessica, Jann, Mae, Steve and Veronica. Great service. My favorite was their binagoongan fried rice. It’s always too salty for me elsewhere.
Everything was good though: their lumpiang Shanghai (kinda small, though), [...]

Must Eat Olympic Sandwich from Ike’s Place

November 15th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under American, Food, Must Eat / Leave A Comment

I called Ike’s Place at 10pm on the dot and placed an order for a sandwich. I didn’ t have a menu in front of me so I just asked them to pick something for me – anything with meat. “Are you down for something crazy?” Sure, I answered. “You eat pickles and tomatos and [...]

Must Eat Best Bun Bo Hue at Bun Bo Hue An Nam

November 8th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Must Eat, Vietnamese / 2 Comments

I’m actually not a big fan of pho and noodle soups in general, but I do make exceptions to certain dishes, one of them being bun bo hue (bún bò huế). I’ve only had this spicy bowl of noodle soup at a handful of places, but the best that I’ve had so far is definitely [...]

Must Eat Shaved Snow at Snow Miracle in Westfield Oakridge Mall

November 8th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Dessert, Food, Must Eat / Leave A Comment

Shaved snow (雪花冰) is one of my most favorite desserts in Taiwan, but it’s almost non-existent here in the states. The only place that serves shaved snow in the Bay Area is Snow Miracle inside the Westfield Oakridge Mall. It’s not as good as other places that I’ve had it at (Frappe Bliss in Richmond, [...]

Must Eat Bo Bay Mon at Saigon Kitchen

November 8th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Must Eat, Vietnamese / 3 Comments

I finally got to try the Vietnamese seven courses of beef (bò 7 món). We had it at Saigon Kitchen in San Jose. It was a pain/time-consuming wrapping everything in the beginning, but I eventually got used to it, and by the end of the night, none of us were wrapping anything anymore. Three of [...]

Dunkin’ Donuts in Taiwan

September 14th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Food, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

The very last thing I ate in Taiwan was none other than a donut from Dunkin’ Donuts. I only get to eat this when I go to New York, and even in New York it feels different. Dunkin’ Donuts is fairly new in Taiwan, opening its first branch in January of 2007. Anyway, Jann and [...]

Must Eat Pineapple Cakes at Chia Te Bakery – The Best in Taiwan?

September 13th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Food, Must Eat, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

Ask anyone in Taiwan where you can get the best pineapple cake (鳳梨酥) and they’ll see Chia Te (佳德). When we got there, it was packed with locals. That’s how you know it’s good. We all bought some to take home, plus some wife cakes (老婆饼), which were also good there.

Cupcakes at Cloudy Cupcake in Eslite

September 13th, 2009 by Jonas / Filed under Bakery, Dessert, Food, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

I had to make another visit to Cloudy Cupcake in Eslite because I lost all my pictures from my first visit there. Besides, at about NT$50 a cupcake, they’re actually very cheap compared to US standards. Plus, they had a lot of different flavors this time. This time, Jann, Steve and I shared seven cupcakes: [...]
