Must Eat Dinner at M Cafe

January 11th, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Italian, Must Eat, Taiwan, Travels / 1 Comment

Of all the “westernized” places in Taipei, my most favorite place for dinner by far has got to be M Cafe (門卡迪) at Ximending. At about NT$500 (or US$17), you can get a five course meal consisting of your choice of: soup, salad/appetizer, entree, drink, and dessert. The only thing disappointing was probably the soup, [...]

Thai Food at Tai Feng Wei

January 3rd, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Taiwan, Thai, Travels / Leave A Comment

For those looking for good and cheap hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant, check out Tai Feng Wei (泰風味) at the Red House courtyard, aka the gay district in Ximending. It’s so tiny that it’s easy to miss. The older woman working there is from Thailand, and the younger man who works there is her punk-looking nephew. It’s [...]

Hot Pot at Guo Pa Yang Guo

January 3rd, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Japanese, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

Holly brought me the newest Guo Ba (鍋爸) at Ximending. It’s very nice inside – clean and modern. All of the veggies and processed seafoods (like lobster ball or fishcakes) are out in the buffet bar. The meats are at the counter and are sliced to order. Seafood is an additional fee and must be [...]

Must Eat Waffles and Sesame Mont Blanc at M Cafe

January 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Italian, Must Eat, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

Jennifer and I were walking around and spotted cakes in a display case inside a restaurant. I actually spotted their Mont Blanc (chestnut cream cake) from a distance – I’m a sucker for them. We weren’t hungry, but we had to go in – we’re on vacation! We went into M Cafe (門卡迪) and saw [...]

Drinks and Cakes at 85 Degrees Cafe

I first heard about 85 Degrees Coffee (85°C/85度C咖啡) in California, but I knew its original location was in Taiwan. I went to try it this time, and the drinks were not bad. Cakes were pretty good too. Nothing outstanding, but not bad.

Must Eat Goose at Ya Rou Bian

January 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Chinese, Food, Must Eat, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

I don’t think I’ve ever had goose before. Ya Rou Bian (鴨肉扁) specializes in goose and is always packed. Goose is very meaty and actually contains a lot more protein than chicken. I like it. Their noodles are not bad too!

Tea at Ching Shin

January 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Coffee & Drinks, Food, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

While walking through Ximending, Jennifer and I saw a long line at Ching Shin (清心福全冷飲站) so we had to go there. Not sure what we got, but we asked for their most popular drink. We got an iced tea with a strong tea taste. Maybe chrysanthemum?

Street Food at Ximending

January 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Food, Street Food, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

I didn’t get to try much street food at Ximending, but I did get to try the roasted quail eggs (烤鳥蛋). I’m pretty sure they’re quail eggs. They taste like miniature chicken eggs. Delicious.

Must Eat Noodles at Ay-Chung Flour-Rice Noodle

January 1st, 2010 by Jonas / Filed under Chinese, Food, Must Eat, Taiwan, Travels / Leave A Comment

I finally got to try the famous noodles from Ay-Chung Flour-Rice Noodle (阿宗麵線) while at Ximending. The line was crazy long, but it moved steadily. The noodles (mian xian/麵線) were thin and soft, and the soup was flavorful. A small bowl is $40 while a large is $50. Worth every dollar! (And I’d probably be [...]
